OUR WORK

Branding that captures and connects.

Some clients come to us because something isn’t working. Others because something important is about to change.

A well-established brand may need a careful evolution. A new product has to earn its place on shelf. A business may be entering a new market, launching a new range or simply know that its brand is no longer doing the job it should.

We work out what should stay, what needs to change, who the brand needs to matter to and what will actually move the business forward.

Then we turn that thinking into strategy, identity, personality, packaging, retail thinking and a practical route forward.

FEATURED WORK

Square Nutrition

Nutrition | Brand Strategy, Identity, Packaging & Route to Market

If square means boring, how do you make it desirable?

HONEST. TASTY. NUTRITIOUS. A deliberately simple nutrition brand in a category that often makes things unnecessarily complicated.

Square started with a straightforward idea: make convenient nutrition that tastes good, uses recognisable ingredients and is easy to understand. The challenge was turning that simplicity into something that still felt premium, distinctive and desirable.

Royal Flush worked across positioning, audience, new product development, range architecture, identity, packaging and route-to-market thinking. Through gap analysis, we identified an opportunity in savoury nutritional supplements, helping shape a new category direction planned to follow the initial sweet range after launch.

How do you sell coffee when nobody can smell it?

Read the York Coffee Emporium case study

GOLD / 1ST PLACE Dieline Awards 2025, Beverage Brand Identity Systems

Whether online or on shelf, customers cannot smell or taste the coffee before they buy it. And in a category where origin, craft and quality are often communicated in very similar ways, the brand has to work much harder.

Royal Flush went deep into the business, its customers, the market and the competition before leading the strategy, identity, packaging and ecommerce work, creating a much more distinctive and memorable world around the coffee.

FROM BARROW BOYS TO TEN ACRE A completely new brand built to feel premium, distinctive and unmistakably British.

It started as Barrow Boys Crisps. The product had ambition, but the original name and presentation did not. Royal Flush created the Ten Acre name, brand world, flavour naming, packaging, stories and launch creative, building a premium British snack brand with enough character to travel well beyond the crisp aisle.

It did exactly that, eventually selling in more than 40 international markets, with listings including Selfridges, Harvey Nichols, Whole Foods and Holland & Barrett.

Island Cuisine

Food | Brand Strategy, Brand Identity, Packaging & Retail

Tesco said no. That was where the project started.

Read the Island Cuisine case study

FROM REJECTION TO RETAIL A stronger brand, clearer proposition and a much more compelling reason to choose it.

Island Cuisine came to Royal Flush after its original branding and packaging had been rejected by Tesco. What looked like a packaging problem was actually something bigger. Founder Ronnie Albert had a distinctive Creole story, but the brand was not expressing it clearly enough or solving a customer problem in a way that would stand out in retail.

We rebuilt the brand around that story, sharpened the proposition and developed the packaging and retail offer, helping turn Island Cuisine into a brand listed by Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons and Asda.

Edwards of Conwy

Food & Retail | Brand Strategy, Brand Development, Identity & Packaging

How do you modernise a heritage brand without blurring the lines?

Read the Edwards of Conwy case study

TWO BRANDS. ONE BUSINESS. DIFFERENT JOBS.

Edwards of Conwy had decades of heritage, recognition and character, but it also had to sit comfortably alongside its sister supermarket brand, Edwards the Butcher. The challenge was to modernise the original Conwy brand without confusing the audience, competing with the supermarket identity or losing the history that made the shop distinctive in the first place.

Royal Flush evolved Edwards of Conwy sensitively, giving it a clearer identity and more personality while protecting the separation between the two brands. The result gave the Conwy brand more scope to grow beyond the shop and into retail in its own right, without weakening the role of Edwards the Butcher.

How do you give a distinctive name a world to belong to?

ROOTED IN THE LANDSCAPE A richer brand story built around place, personality and distinctive taste.

SELECTED RETAILERS Selfridges · Harvey Nichols · Marks & Spencer

In the Welsh Wind already had a strong name. Royal Flush helped turn that name into a much fuller brand world, developing the story around its connection to the Welsh landscape and giving the identity more depth, personality and a stronger sense of place.

The Murmurations campaign became a key part of that development, helping move the brand beyond a logo and label into something more expressive and ownable. Alongside the creative work, we supported the team with positioning, audience and growth strategy, refining the brand towards people with distinctive taste and people who know what to look for. The brand is now stocked by Selfridges, Harvey Nichols and Marks & Spencer.

Bushfired Charcoal

Outdoor Cooking | Brand Strategy, Packaging, Product Positioning & Commercial Thinking

How do you make charcoal premium?

Read the Bushfired Charcoal case study

THE PACKAGING HAD TO PROTECT THE PRODUCT, NOT JUST SELL IT.

A system designed to stretch across barbecue charcoal, shisha charcoal and biochar.

Bushfired charcoal is made in Nigeria from shea nut husks, a byproduct of shea butter production. Unlike traditional lumpwood charcoal, the compressed briquettes are formed into precise cylindrical, hexagonal and cube shapes for different uses, from barbecues and restaurant grills to shisha. Put those into a conventional charcoal sack and the product risks arriving broken.

Royal Flush developed the brand and packaging around that reality. Cardboard boxes protected the briquettes, allowed them to be stacked neatly for storage, fulfilment and retail, and immediately helped position the product as something more considered and premium. The African origin, material story and distinctive product forms then became part of the visual identity and messaging, giving Bushfired a brand world rooted in where the product came from and why it was different.

Batch #5 Gluten Free Bakery

A gluten-free bakery brand built around craft, personality and a very personal reason for existing.

Batch #5 gluten-free bakery packaging label.
About this project

Batch #5 was created as a separate gluten-free bakery by the owner of Bath Bakery, inspired by his granddaughter who has coeliac disease. Royal Flush developed the strategy, identity and packaging labels around that story, creating a brand with warmth and character rather than the clinical feel often associated with gluten-free products.

Ice & Easy Frozen Cocktails

A playful, feminine frozen-cocktail brand designed to bring more personality to the freezer aisle.

About this project

The Ice Co already had frozen cocktail products, but the existing packaging was failing to connect with the audience. Royal Flush repositioned and redesigned the range around younger consumers looking for fun, sweet frozen cocktails, creating a more distinctive identity and a more sophisticated extension for the prosecco-based products.

Pole Sud Ice Cream

Brand positioning and art direction that reframed unusual ice-cream flavours as creative ingredients.

Pole Sud ice cream with a paintbrush, figs and a palette-like presentation.
About this project

Pole Sud produced French ice creams for professional chefs, including unusual flavours designed to become part of a finished dish rather than simply a dessert on their own. Royal Flush positioned the range like paints on an artist’s palette, then developed the photography and art direction to show chefs the creative possibilities of using the flavours in their own work.

Eat HomeMade

Brand development and campaigns for nutritious ready meals made without artificial ingredients.

Eat HomeMade campaign poster.
About this project

Eat HomeMade began by delivering nutritious refrigerated and frozen ready meals locally during the pandemic, built around the idea of food made as you might make it yourself, without artificial ingredients. Royal Flush developed the brand identity and advertising to make that proposition clearer as the business grew from a local service towards a broader national brand.

A HERITAGE BRAND, REFRAMED FOR A MUCH BROADER OUTDOOR WORLD

75,000+ CUSTOMER RECORDS Used to understand audiences and simplify a complex training offer.

CLIMB · HIKE · PADDLE · BIKE One flexible identity across four very different outdoor worlds.

Ben led the refresh of Plas y Brenin, a well-established and much-loved name in the outdoor industry. The existing identity was strongly rooted in climbing and represented a narrower picture of the audience than the organisation now served. The challenge was to modernise it sensitively, without losing the recognition and heritage people already valued.

The new identity took inspiration from the view across Llyn y Mymbyr towards the Snowdon massif, using the landscape and its reflection to create a simple, flexible icon that could belong equally to climbing, hiking, paddling and biking. It had to work everywhere from helmets and uniforms to signage, print and digital applications, without feeling tied to a particular discipline, gender or audience.

Behind the identity sat a much bigger piece of strategic work. Customer data spanning more than 75,000 people was used to understand different audiences, simplify a complex service offer and sharpen the role of Plas y Brenin as a place that helps train the people who train others across climb, hike, paddle and bike.

Apex Technical Training

When the work is serious, the brand has to look the part.

A NEW BRAND, BUILT TO BELONG TO THE DMM FAMILY

ONE BRAND. TWO BUYING JOURNEYS. Built for organisations booking teams and individuals booking themselves.

Apex Technical Training was created as a new company within the DMM International Group, delivering specialist training for people working at height and in demanding, dynamic environments. Its audiences range from emergency and rescue services to energy companies, remote-location teams, arborists and other professional users.

Royal Flush developed a new identity and personality that felt recognisably connected to the wider DMM family while still giving Apex a distinct character of its own. The visual system drew on the colours, symbols and environments associated with technical work and emergency response, then extended across clothing, merchandise, equipment and wider brand applications.

The Shopify website was designed around two very different buying journeys. Organisations needed to book multiple delegates and connect course bookings with back-end invoicing, while individuals needed a straightforward way to find and book training themselves. The result had to feel dynamic and exciting enough for the outdoor and rescue world, while remaining professional, credible and easy for businesses to use.

How do you make a broad consumer portfolio easier to understand and grow?

BIG RANGES. MULTIPLE BRANDS. DIFFERENT AUDIENCES.

Ultimate Products operates across consumer goods, including small domestic appliances, cleaning products and licensed ranges. With a wide portfolio and multiple brands aimed at different customers, the challenge was less about creating one new identity and more about making better strategic decisions across a complex consumer-products business.

Royal Flush worked at a strategic level around how products, brands and customer propositions could be understood more clearly, helping bring structure to decisions across a broad and commercially active portfolio.

Sambro

How do you turn a £20m Disney relationship into a £50m opportunity?

Read the Sambro case study

£20M TO £50M Sambro successfully secured a £50 million Disney contract following the new pitch.

Sambro was already a major licensed toy manufacturer with a £20 million Disney contract. When the relationship came up for re-pitch, the challenge was to show Disney not simply what Sambro could manufacture, but how it would understand the audiences, position the ranges, take them to market and build demand around them.

Royal Flush helped develop the strategy behind the pitch, bringing together market research, target audiences, range positioning, promotional planning and retail strategy, including the retail pyramid. We then helped turn that thinking into a presentation designed to position Sambro alongside major global toy businesses such as Hasbro, TOMY and Mattel.

The creative expression included a new ident, sound signature and sizzle film to bring the proposition to life. Sambro went on to secure a £50 million Disney contract.

Insurance Revolution

How do you make specialist insurance feel human?

Read the Insurance Revolution case study

A MORE HUMAN BRAND FOR A COMPLICATED CATEGORY

Insurance Revolution works in specialist and non-standard insurance, where customers often have circumstances that do not fit neatly into a standard policy. The opportunity was to make the brand feel less transactional and more personal, helping customers feel that somebody would actually listen to their situation and find the right cover.

Royal Flush helped reshape the brand around that more human approach, developing the strategy, identity, imagery, website and wider digital experience. The visual system combined the idea of movement and protection with people-focused photography, creating a brand that felt relevant to the wheels-based insurance market without falling into the usual insurance-category clichés.

The brand work formed part of a much broader strategic relationship, including customer journey, website, content and digital operations.

SubbieTax

Professional Services | Brand Strategy, Brand Identity, App UX & Launch Creative

How do you make tax feel built for the trades?

FROM DATED FINANCIAL BRAND TO DIGITAL PRODUCT

SubbieTax came to Royal Flush with a brand that felt dated, financial and disconnected from the subcontractors and tradespeople it was designed to serve. With a new mobile app in development, the identity needed to change before the product could credibly launch.

Royal Flush rebuilt the brand around the construction audience, developing the identity, colour, typography, photography and icon system before designing every screen state for the app in collaboration with the development team. We then created the launch creative for social media and paid advertising across Google and Meta. The app launched successfully and attracted strong initial download activity, although we do not have verified numbers to publish.

About this project

Muir Cove Consulting works across rail, aviation, maritime and emergency preparedness, and founder Dave Steele wanted the identity to include a lighthouse as a symbol of guidance and shelter.
